Drag Racers: Season Opener Reminders

Our first drag racing event of the season is a few days away, and we wanted to share some critical information with our racers, whether you’re new to Interstate Raceway or a long-time visitor.

Interstate Raceway operates on a strict facility curfew, and we want to complete all of the racing for the day in a timely manner. We need your help to keep things moving efficiently so everyone gets their full runs and has a good time.

If you are doing NHRA licensing passes, please let us know during tech inspection. You will run with the Test & Tune group to get your runs in throughout the day. If we have scheduling issues, we will prioritize licensing runs to get them finished and the paperwork validated.

Choose your class(es) before you arrive at the gate. This helps us get through the check-in line quickly and efficiently. If you don’t know what class to run, jump into the Test & Tune group for the day to make practice passes down the track. Then you’ll know how your car performs and you can use your time slips to pick which class(es) you should enter on the next race day. It’s popular to test on Saturday and compete on Sunday!

If you enter multiple classes, be prepared to potentially hotlap your vehicle. We have a lot of races to run and a strict facility curfew, so we can’t always allow for significant cooldown times between classes. If you run in consecutive classes, you may not have time to get back to your pit area before running again.

Keep an ear out for your class calls. You must be in your class lanes when the class is sent to the bottleneck in order to participate. Tune your radio to 107.5 FM to hear our announcing broadcasts in the facility if you’re not near a loudspeaker. You’ll hear your class followed by which staging lanes (1-10) to pull into.

PULL FORWARD in the staging lanes when signaled. Some of the classes get large and have traffic that winds through the facility. Please pay attention and pull forward to make room for the folks at the rear. When a class shrinks, we’ll call for you to park diagonally in the staging lanes to make it easier to pair up competitors.

Check out the full list of Drag Racing Rules for more details including staging, timing, and vehicle number requirements. We look forward to seeing you and your crew this weekend.
